Splitting The Needle

few stray flurries or a snow shower north of Philadelphia, wind-driven clouds and a bit of a chill in the air are expected in the area. Temperatures should top out in the mid 40's this afternoon in Philadelphia, just above 40 north/west, and mid/upper 40's south/east. West winds gusting to 30+ mph will bring the wind chills down about five to ten degrees this afternoon from the actual air temperature. Tonight will feature diminishing winds and skies that will become clear as the lack of daytime

Tuesday's warmth across the southern two-thirds of the region was quite impressive. Northeast Philadelphia hit 72 degrees today thanks in large part to south to southwest winds blowing up across the urbanized core of the city, transporting the urban heat island to the Great Northeast. North of the PA Turnpike, it was a different story today as temperatures have taken a tumble during the afternoon hours as a cold front slipped south. Temperatures in Allentown dropped from the low 50's to the low

Snowfall Forecast For Wednesday

Tomorrow's event isn't a big deal on the scale of all-time snowfalls but its timing, arriving by 2 PM in Philadelphia, makes it a noteworthy enough event because the snowfall should cause enough havoc in the afternoon rush hour. A general swath of 1-2" of snow looks to set up along the PA Turnpike and I-195 corridor and along a line 50 miles either side of that, which puts Philadelphia solidly into a probable 1-2" snowfall. Given that this is a clipper there will not be much moisture to work wit

Spread Some Love

The other day - oh, a couple of days ago now - Claudia at Everyday Kindness was generous enough to pass this little award on to me. I wanted to put it on my sidebar in a particular position but, Blogger doesn't apparently want me to put it in the spot I had in mind. Matter of fact, Blogger doesn't want me to add any more people to my blog roll either because the scrollbar for my sidebar only will go down about maybe one quarter of the length of my sidebar. So that eliminates my getting into the

February 26th, 2008 Forecast

This evening into tonight: With temperatures today in the upper 40's to around 50 under bountiful sunshine I have one word to share with you. Enjoy! Tuesday's weather will take a trip south as low pressure moves through the Mid-Atlantic and brings us more rainfall tomorrow. Clouds will increase late this evening and we will wake to cloudy skies tomorrow morning. Our lowest temperatures should be around midnight before temperatures level off or even rise slowly west of Philadelphia. Since low pr

Penguins 4, Capitals 2

Great road win for the Pens. It was especially nice to see them take the game over in the third period. Their hard work paid off with a luck goal, but they'd earned it by then. Here's the recap! First Period: Both teams were charged up at the beginning of the game. The Caps had the better of the scoring chances during the period, but Fleury was up to the challenge. The Caps also shot a bunch of pucks wide of the net, and had a few more go bad on broken sticks. It felt like they were just a t

More Lanes = More Traffic

An article in yesterday??s Post-Gazette asks, ???Would toll lanes unclog Parkway East???? The answer is no. Fifty years of planning and traffic engineering has shown that more lanes equal more traffic. Much like the law of physics that says that liquids flow until pressures are equalized traffic expands until roads are clogged. There are other concerns with this proposal, most notably that the Turnpike Commission has taken the initative to propose this concept without sharing it with PennDOT Secre

Movement

Who wouldn't rather be a part of a movement? Actually lots of people. Moving from old forms is as exhausting as it is exhiliarating. The turning point is when we realize that something is stuck. Church. Politics. Life. There might be an occasional click of rightness as life passes by. But if we want life to be different, a shift in our most basic practices and perspectives is required. Scary. The problem is: many of us see the need for change but we are too tired or uninspired to carry it out

I'll go out on limb and predict that tonight's primaries

will leave things as they have been - unresolved. Obama looks to have an edge in Texas, while Clinton has an edge in Ohio and Rhode Island. I have no info on Vermont, but I would expect The Green Mountain state to lean Clinton as it lies between NH and NY. So Clinton might gain some ground but not enough to overtake Obama. Suprises are certainly possible as Obama might tie Ohio and get enough in th eoddly structured TX primary cum caucus to more than offset RI. Who knows??? It is fun predic

The Sound Of Philadelphia

They could care less about real working people, minorities, human rights, the environment, etc, etc, etc. With them, it's all about power for power's sake.
